Where do I start?
If you are new to Pilates and do not experience any pain or discomfort when
exercising, then we suggest you begin with Introductory Mat classes or the
Essential Reformer Classes.
Introductory Mat Classes
You will be taught the 5 basic principles of stability & alignment, which are
the foundations of STOTT PILATES™. You will learn the warm-up and the beginning
curriculum of essential exercises that build core strength and release tight
muscles, with refreshing breathing. Pilates is a daily practice so practicing
2-3 times a week is optimal. You do not need any introductory appointments to
begin mat classes. However, you are always welcome to book private appointments
at any time if you desire or need the individual attention. Mat Classes are 1
hour long and are limited to 10 people for quality control and community
building. Exercises are performed on the floor on the mats provided. Ascending
levels are: Introductory, Essential, Essential/Intermediate, Intermediate , and
Advanced. We have all of the small equipment (toning balls, stability cushions,
mini-stability balls, Fitness Circles, rollers, the Edge) so we play with lots
of these toys to add variety, excitement and fun to the mat workout! Watch our
newsletter for our mat class specials, such as “Picture Perfect Pilates” (for
the wedding party), and remember we have gift certificates that makes a great
gift!
OR
Essential Reformer Classes
The Reformer is a unique and powerful piece of equipment that is also a lot of
fun. If you want to get into a Reformer class setting, which is limited to 6
people at the same level, you must have the 3 part Private Package that consists
of 3 – 1.0 hour privates to get your familiar with this spring loaded machine
and the beginner syllabus. If you are wanting to start Reformer classes with a
partner or friend, you will have to take the 3 part Semi-Private Package.
After the privates or semi-privates, you can go to any Essential level Reformer
class on the schedule or find a class that you want to belong to. Remember, you
can always have private or semi-private instruction at any time if that is what
you prefer. Clients use a combo of Mat and Reformer classes, along with 1-2
privates, to enhance their Pilates practice. We have all of the other pieces of
large equipment, such as the Cadillac and Stability Chairs, so, as your Pilates
practice progresses, you can enjoy the purist Pilates experience and use all of
the large equipment, in the personal training or class setting as well.
Ascending levels of class progression are: Essential, Essential/Intermediate,
Intermediate and Advanced.
Where do I start if I am in pain, injured , have been referred or can’t
exercise?
The Reformer class is most appropriate for individuals who experience some
physical limitations that would prevent them from participating fully in our Mat
program i.e. herniated disk, ruptured disk, chronic pain, trouble getting up
and down off of the floor, re-entry into movement and exercise, feeling
uncomfortable with traditional workouts or who have been referred by their
doctor or physiotherapist. You will be taught the 5 Basic Principles of
stability and alignment , followed by the fundamentals of pelvic and spinal
stabilization. We start by creating an awareness of deep torso muscles. Once the
awareness of the core muscle support system is established, we work to increase
general strength, endurance and re-pattern any muscular-skeletal imbalances
which may exist, so that the body is re-integrated as a whole. All activity is
supervised and pain-free. You will need the 3 part Private or Semi Private
package to get into the Reformer class setting. Should the instructor detect
physical limitations or a serious muscular imbalance, we may recommend that you
refrain from group classes and stay with individualized instruction or be
referred to the Rehab Pilates physiotherapy services on-site.
3
Part Private or Semi-Private Personal Training Package
You need the 3 – 1.0 hour private appointments, or 3 – 1.0 hour semi-private
appointments when coming with a parent or friend, if you want to be in the
Reformer class setting. It is necessary to properly assess your body alignment,
posture, strength, flexibility and introduce you to the spring loaded machine
and beginner syllabus. The instructor then designs your Pilates program and
guides you to the appropriate group class.
